👉 Use in Dr. Clark’s kidney cleans to substitute black goji berry or black cherry concentrates
Back in March, we posted about black goji berry extract as a potent substitute for black cherry concentrate in Dr. Hulda Clark’s kidney cleanse. Rich in anthocyanins and antioxidant support, it offered excellent protection for kidney tissues and helped reduce inflammation. But some readers have told us that black goji is hard to find. Just as effective is “hibiscus sabdariffa”, also known as roselle. So, if you have a hard time finding black cherry or goji berry concentrate, roselle might be your choice. This flower is a pleasant herbal tea packed with kidney-strengthening properties.
Hibiscus health benefits
Hibiscus is loaded with anthocyanins, hibiscus acid, and other polyphenols that:
- Support healthy urine flow (diuretic effect)
- Help dissolve uric acid and oxalate crystals
- Protect kidney tissues with antioxidant activity
These are precisely the functions needed to replace the role of black cherry or goji in the kidney cleanse. Whether you’re doing the cleanse for detox, stone prevention, or general support, hibiscus fills the gap seamlessly.
Use hibiscus in Dr. Clark’s kidney cleanse
Use dried calyces (not flavored tea bags) for best results:
- Dosage: 1–2 teaspoons dried hibiscus per cup
- Preparation: Steep in simmering water (not boiling!!!) for 5–10 minutes
- Schedule: Drink 2–3 cups daily, ideally between meals
You can start the tea on the same day as the kidney herb blend (hydrangea root, gravel root, marshmallow root). While the root blend helps break down sediment and soothe tissues, hibiscus provides antioxidant and flushing support, similar to what black cherry or goji would do.
The hibiscus tea is taken separately from the herbal kidney tea mix, preferably in the afternoon or early evening. It doesn’t interfere with the root tea and enhances the cleanse by covering different functions.
Hibiscus tincture for short-term treatment
For short-term use, or when tea is not practical (e.g., during travel), hibiscus tincture is an excellent alternative:
- Dose: 15–30 drops (0.5–1 mL) in water, 2–3× per day
- Schedule: Drink 2–3 cups per day, ideally between meals
This concentrated form offers fast kidney support for a few days without requiring tea preparations. It’s useful when convenience is key or a brief, intensified cleanse is desired.
