Fungi form a distinct kingdom of eukaryotic organisms, including single-celled yeasts and multicellular molds. Unlike plants, they do not photosynthesize but instead absorb nutrients from organic matter, making them essential decomposers in nature. Molds reproduce by spores and thrive in moist environments, remaining dormant when conditions are unfavorable, even at refrigeration temperatures.
While some fungi have useful roles in fermentation and medicine, many molds produce mycotoxins, toxic compounds that can harm human health even in tiny amounts. These toxins are not alive and cannot be destroyed by disinfectants or heat; they must be detoxified by the liver.
Dr. Hulda Clark identified mycotoxins as key contributors to immune suppression, liver damage, and chronic illness. In her research, aflatoxin, cytochalasin B, kojic acid, patulin, zearalenone, and T-2 toxin were commonly found in contaminated foods and affected tissues. These toxins impair white blood cells, block liver regeneration, and interfere with detox pathways. Aflatoxin, for example, can disable liver function for days.
Mold exposure is common. Packaged bread, cereals, teas, dried fruits, and even health foods can contain mold residues. After harvest, plant and animal materials naturally begin to decompose and develop mold. Several mycotoxins directly weaken immune cells responsible for fighting viruses, allowing latent infections to reemerge and contribute to chronic disease.
In Dr. Clark’s findings, mold toxins were not incidental; they were persistent, biologically aggressive agents central to immune breakdown and long-term illness.
